Yet another school year
posted by alex on Thursday Aug 9, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, another school year is right around the corner, and mynoteIT is back and better than ever. We've added a wide array of new features and updated the functionality of everything else, so now it's easier to find the information you need, when you need it.

First, mynoteIT is now fully-integrated into facebook.com which means anything you can do at mynoteIT.com you can now do at facebook.com, without ever leaving the webstie. You can even share your mynoteIT notes with your facebook friends. Check it out at:

http://apps.facebook.com/mynoteit

We added upload support for html documents so you can upload and convert almost any type of data on your computer. Your friends list now contains "Recent friend activity" so you can see what classes, notes, and assignments your friends are working on. Bookmarks now have an instant-search features so you can easily find the resources you're looking for. We also went through major database upgrades to manage all your information.

This will be the third school year mynoteIT has been helping thousands of students world wide organize their school lives. mynoteIT has been around the longest, has the biggest community, and the biggest database of student notes on the web, and with your help we're going to keep it that way.

Good luck in school this year, study hard, and let mynoteIT work for you!

10 months, 6000 users
posted by alex on Friday Feb 16, 2007 at 6:38 pm

Earlier today we broke 6,000 registered users on mynoteIT. We want to thank everybody for using mynoteIT and everybody who has promoted mynoteIT. We opened up to the public in April 2005 and haven't spent a cent on advertising (because we don't have a cent to spend!), this has all happened because of you guys. We also have some exciting new features we'll be releasing in the coming days so stay tuned and keep telling your friends and classmates (and teachers) about mynoteIT.

And don't forget our development team loves hearing new ideas, so don't be shy and let them know what you want.

Here are some stats as of Feb 16 2007 @ 5:35 PM: 6004 users, 8293 classes and 8496 notes.

Thanks again.

Downtime tonight
posted by alex on Monday Jan 15, 2007 at 10:20 am

UPDATE (Jan 16, 2007): All the updates are now complete and everything should be up and running smoothly. Let us know what you think of the new features!

Greetings all.

mynoteIT will be down tonight starting around 10PM PST. We have been working very hard over the last month to bring you more of what you need to make it through school.

The site will only be down for a few hours while we work out the last of the bugs and make sure everything runs smoothly. We will be up and running again before you have to go back to school Tuesday morning. Here are a few quick things you can expect to see:

Design Change: Instead of option icons everywhere, we've grouped them into bundles so your screen is less cluttered and managing your notes and other info is extremely easy.

More Ajax: We've added tons of new ajax functions everywhere on the site so make information addition and retrieval much easier. For example to add a new upcoming assignment, on click will bring up a popup inside mynoteIT, instead of redirecting you to a new web page. This will save everybody a lot of time.

New Groups: Groups have been re-done and now have many advanced features. You can now set group admins, make the group specific to your school only, and make your group public to anybody or private so only people you let in may join.

Keep in mind these are just a few of the things we're releasing tonight, so make sure you come back to check it out, and don't forget to let us know what you think about the new layout and features, or let us know if you have an idea for something else we could add.

mynoteIT users, we need your help
posted by alex on Wednesday Oct 25, 2006 at 7:03 pm

I want to start by saying thank you to everybody who uses mynoteIT. You've all made it a huge success since just the beginning of this school year, and we're growing more every day.

We have a few slick features lined up for you guys in the next couple days, but we need more input from you. So if you can spare two minutes please send us an email (feedback@mynoteit.com) and tell us a couple things. What do you like best about mynoteIT? What do you dislike most about mynoteIT? Suggestions for improvements to current features, and most importantly, tell us what you want to see added! Give us an idea and we'll run with it, anything to make your school life easier.

We look forward to hearing from you, and thanks again for making mynoteIT what it is today. feedback@mynoteit.com

mynoteIT Mobile (plus more)
posted by alex on Friday Oct 20, 2006 at 1:00 am

I know you haven't heard much from us recently, but we have a good reason. Lots of new features! So let's start from the top.

mynoteIT Mobile will allow you to access your notes from your mobile phone. You can access the mynoteIT Mobile website at:
http://mobile.mynoteit.com and
http://sms.mynoteit.com

You will now see a mobile phone icon next to your upcoming due dates. This will allow you to choose how many many days in advance you want to receive a text message from us, notifying you of your upcoming assignment. Just another way we make sure you get the information you need, when you need it.

Next, we've added a community message board. Anybody from mynoteIT can go there and help other people with questions they have, or ask a question you might have. We also have a message board watch-list so you can track the threads that are important to you.

For the visual people, when you visit your account page, you will see a default picture in your profile. Clicking on it will let you upload your own picture or avatar so your friends can find, and recognize you on mynoteIT. You will also see your friends' pictures in their profile pages.

We also have a Help / F.A.Q." section so you can see a list of all the features mynoteIT offers, and how to use them.

Finally, you will notice a new section in our "blog" called "Student News". We can offer you a way to store and organize your school information, but there is still a ton of information out there that can be very helpful to you, so we've created mynoteIT News. So you can now find news relative to you, the student, in one place. And if you find something interesting, you can submit it to be reviewed and posted.

This is only the beginning of many upgrades and new features that will be released over the next week, so check back often because we're not holding anything back!

Finally, remember we're always trying to grow bigger so if mynoteIT has been useful to you, please tell your friends about it anyway possible. And if you have a facebook account, feel free to join the mynoteIT Facebook group, and as always we would love to hear your feedback on our new features: feedback@mynoteit.com

Note History
posted by alex on Saturday Oct 14, 2006 at 12:38 am

When you take a new set of notes (or edit some of your current notes), you will see a note history () icon next to your notes. We added this feature because we know a lot of notes and papers get edited many times, and sometimes there was information you needed that you don't have anymore.

A new copy of your notes will be backed up every time you begin taking notes, editing notes, and every minute by auto-save. So no matter how many times you change your notes, you can always find the revisions easily.

Revision process with note tree
posted by justin on Thursday Oct 5, 2006 at 1:25 pm

For those who don't know, the revision process can be a students best friend. When you write that big research paper and you've read over it to find all the errors, you've probably still missed some, especially if you wrote the whole thing a day or two before it was due. With the new note tree feature, you can easily have a peer read over your paper, then edit and fix any errors they may find, and save a copy with the corrections in the 'note tree'. This way you never lose your original work, and you can look over the revised notes to see changes.

To view a set of notes 'note tree' simply click on the "view note tree" link on any set of notes you view. If you have any questions or comments let us know here, or leave a comment.

iCal Support
posted by alex on Tuesday Sep 26, 2006 at 10:38 pm

Hello again fellow students. We've got a couple more features for you that we know you're gonna like. First off you'll see a new iCal icon () on your calendar, and next to your upcoming assignments. This will export all your due dates and allow you to input them into your favorite calendar service. Because iCal is a universal format it should work with most calendar services such as Google Calendar and Outlook.

Next we've added the ability to add your teacher's website to the contact information. We got a request to add your teacher's office number and office hours to the info list, so look for that tomorrow.

Keep the feedback coming!

RSS Feeds
posted by alex on Friday Sep 22, 2006 at 10:07 pm

When you visit your homepage you'll notice a couple new icons. We are adding the ability to access your information via RSS feeds.

We've currently added RSS support for "upcoming due dates" and "recent notes". If you would like to see more information in RSS form, let us know. All the RSS feeds are dynamic so they will be updated instantly when something new is added.

We've also added a new icon next to your upcoming assignments that will transfer that assignment to your "to-do list" so you can easily work on it. Hopefully this will help keep you a little more organized.

Remember, we never get tired of hearing your ideas, so send us some feedback!

Version 2 has arrived
posted by alex on Thursday Sep 21, 2006 at 2:31 am

We've made some huge improvements to mynoteIT.

Most noticeably is the design of mynoteIT. Version 2 is a lot cleaner and easier to navigate. Your most important links will be visible to you at all times. We've also added many new features to make your school life even easier.

We cleaned up your homepage so you can see the last 10 notes you've taken, all your upcoming assignments and your to-do list. Your class list shows your teacher's contact information by default, but you can easily view recent notes for each class instantly also.

We replaced our note editor with a more advanced note editor. You can now more easily put images in your notes, create more advanced tables, and many other advanced features. It's also completely compatible with Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera. And yes, we still auto-save your notes every 10 seconds.

Recently we added the ability to upload scanned notes (picture notes) to our database. We've expanded on this idea and you can now upload audio notes to mynoteIT and listen to them in real time. So whether you prefer handwriting, typing or recording your notes, you can store them on mynoteIT.

You'll also see tons of little upgrades and new features around mynoteIT, so come get settled in for the school year with everybody else!

We would love to hear your comments on the new version of mynoteit, so you can either leave a comment here, email our feedback team or visit our contact page.

Happy September 5th
posted by justin on Tuesday Sep 5, 2006 at 11:06 pm

Were releasing another round of features here tonight, many of which you've all asked for. First off we have My Schedule. As you add classes to mynoteIT and set times which you attend each class, we will build a schedule based off that information for you. You can view your schedule by clicking the 'View Schedule" link on your classes page.

As you browse your friends list, you will notice that your friends classes are now listed under their profile. You can see what classes your friends are taking, and if you would like you can add that class to your class list.

You can now easily change the date notes were taken on in real time simply by clicking the date of the notes on your class page.

We have added the ability to share notes with groups also. This makes it easier for everybody in the group to have access to all the information relevant to that group.

And last but not least, we have added the ability to mark community notes as inaccurate, spam or off topic to help keep quality content on mynoteIT.

If you have any questions or comments about the new features let us know .

Preserving the accuracy of notes
posted by alex on Monday Sep 4, 2006 at 11:52 pm

One of the biggest questions we have been asked recently is; "How do I know the notes from other mynoteIT members are accurate?". Tonight, we begin addressing this issue.

When you view any notes from other mynoteIT community members, you will have an option on top to mark the notes as either inaccurate, off topic, or spam. This way when a set of notes receives enough inaccurate votes, community members will be warned of the possible inaccuracy of the notes. An administrator will then check out the notes and if they're offensive or don't belong on mynoteIT, they may be removed.

When you view your class notes, you will now see a new Group Share icon () which will allow all the members of a particular group easily access your shared notes. Anybody in the group can share notes with the group, and you also have the ability to remove a group share any time you want.

You will also begin to see sorting options for your notes. Right now you can sort by title of notes, or by date. We are also adding the ability to re-arrange your class list in a similar way.

We will continue to keep you informed on the progress of these features, and if you have any feedback or suggestions on ways for us to improve, please let us know.

Supporting more countries
posted by alex on Thursday Aug 31, 2006 at 11:07 pm

On top of everything we're trying to keep rolling out, we're trying to add support for all the countries our users go to school in.

Recently we added Canada to our list of supported schools. Now we're happy to present another country: The United Kingdom. If you are from the UK you can visit the "Edit Profile" page, select the UK and add your school.

We are always looking to support more countries so if you don't see yours listed, let us know.

You wanted it, its yours
posted by alex on Wednesday Aug 30, 2006 at 12:09 am

First off we just want to thank all our users for the amount of feedback we have gotten recently. All your input has been taken down and were working hard to get everything you all have asked for finished. We have recently fixed a few bugs and released some of the most requested features, which are listed below.

We added the ability to upload pictures as notes for people who hand write notes and scan them or take digital pictures of the notes. We understand that re-typing your notes is time consuming, so this will save you time and still allow you to have your notes on mynoteIT.

Instead of just searching for friends, now you can also browse for friends by country, state and school.

We have also addressed the community search speed issue. It was taking some time to return results, but now should only take a couple seconds.

You can also add letters to your course numbers, and course numbers are also optional now (because not all high schools have course numbers). Cheers.

Some features you can expect in the near future are:

The ability to share a set of notes with a group. This will make it easier for everybody in the group have access to information relevant to that group.

The ability to change the date on which the notes were taken (useful for our new picture upload feature).

We have a few more tricks up our sleeves, so make sure you keep checking back often. In the mean time, enjoy the new features.

We always love hearing feedback from our users so if you have any more ideas for ways to improve mynoteIT please let us know.

A special thanks to our users
posted by alex on Thursday Aug 24, 2006 at 4:11 pm

In the last week, the mynoteIT community has grown by almost 1000 people. And we just have to say thanks to everybody who helped out. We have had reviews at LifeHack.org, PostBubble and many many more.

We have also received a tremendous amount of feedback and suggestions from our users. So here is what you can expect to see in the next few days.

First, when you add (or edit) a class, you will have the ability to select which days, and time of day you attend each class. With this information, we will (among other things) be able to build a course schedule for you. This feature should be available to the public on friday.

On your classes page you will notice a "Recent Notes" link, which will display a pop-down of the last 3-5 notes you've taken in each class. This will hopefully save our users at least a couple clicks here and there.

As far as the ability to add schools outside of the US or Canada, we're working on this as well. Currently we're adding support for Austria, Australia, Europe and Mexico. If you live in a location that isn't currently suppored, let us know and we will add it as soon as possible.

We are always looking for feedback from our users, so if you have something you want to see added, changed (or even removed) from mynoteIT, don't be shy! Leave us a comment or email us.

A few quick features
posted by alex on Tuesday Aug 15, 2006 at 11:06 pm

Okay we've rolled out a few more features tonight.

First, we've completed the ability to tag your notes and search for notes by tags. This should greatly improve your ability to find exactly what you're looking for.

Next, you'll notice a big "To-do List" on the bottom of your homepage. We added this feature so you can keep track of assignments you're currently working on.

We also gave you the ability to choose how far in advance you wish to be reminded of upcoming assignments. If you want a quick reminder that your spanish paper is due tomorrow, we'll do that. If you need a reminder a week before so you can actually write the spanish paper, we'll do that too.

What else is coming?
posted by alex on Monday Aug 14, 2006 at 5:32 pm

We're all working hard here at mynoteIT to complete the last few things you guys will need for this school year. Here is a quick list of what we have planned for later this week.

The ability to export your personal calendar and group calendars to your computer.

Re-organize your notes page so you can more easily navigate through your class notes and papers.

The ability to add schools that are outside of the USA.

The ability to tag your notes, and an advanced search option to search for tags instead of search the actual notes.

Auto-assigning your school if you register with a valid .edu email address.

More options to download your notes (pdf support, plus more).

More supported file formats for uploaded notes and papers.

We're getting close to the school year (and of course, some people even started today) so if there is anything else you would like to see added before you go back, email us as soon as possible, or leave us a comment!

Another school year is here...
posted by alex on Thursday Aug 10, 2006 at 2:53 am

Are you ready? We are.

Let's start with all the new stuff that you'll see around mynoteIT.

We've added uploading support for OpenOffice documents and .txt documents.

You will now see a "Send to Friend" link when you view your notes, which will easily let you share your notes with your friends.

Your "Upcoming Assignments" box will always be visible on your homepage (reguardless or what upcoming assignments you have).

We have also added a comment system to your notes, so users from the mynoteIT community can leave feedback for you, and vice versa (if you're sharing your notes). mynoteIT Groups also have a message baord now.

Our new advanced search features make it very easy to find exactly what you're looking for.

Users have told us the most confusing part of mynoteIT was the grade tracker, so we've re-designed it and made it easier to understand and use.

We are very excited for this school year and we would love to hear comments and suggestions you have for mynoteIT, contact us at dev@mynoteit.com.

Still rolling out more features
posted by alex on Sunday Aug 6, 2006 at 8:47 pm

We've completed everything on our to-do list and we've done it a little ahead of schedule.

The workspace utilities (which are available to you while you're taking notes) are complete, and you can easily translate a word or a whole sentence from one language to another, as well as find the definition of any word instantly.

And just so your transition to mynoteIT is as easy as possible, you can now upload the notes you've taken on your computer (from Microsoft Word) and we will add them to your account.

Many other features are scheduled to be released before school starts, August 24th. If you have any last-minute suggestions or requests, please let us know as soon as possible.

Check back soon for updates! mynoteIT Dev Team.

We're live
posted by alex on Friday Apr 21, 2006 at 1:35 pm

Yesterday was our official launch of mynoteIT. The last few weeks have been a lot of work to get our features working and implementing the requests of the beta testers. We are very excited to hear from the community about what you think of mynoteIT, as well as ways we can continue to improve it.

Now that we're live, we want to expand our userbase, which leads us to you, the users. If mynoteIT works for you, and you think it might benefit one of your friends, tell them about it! The bigger our community gets, the better it will become as a source for students to get all the information they need.

Thank you all for your support up to this point, and for all the support that will come during our growth in the near future.

Download your notes
posted by alex on Monday Apr 17, 2006 at 1:56 am

Now when you view any of your class notes, you will have the option to download them to your computer (in .doc form).

Simply click the download notes icon, and mynoteIT will convert your notes to a .doc document which will be viewable in Microsoft Word and Open Office. We will also automatically name the file "Class Year Date" so you can easily organize all your downloaded notes on your computer.

One other feature we're almost finished with is our cloud page, which will look at the 50 most recent notes, and create a text cloud based on the amount of times a given word shows up in all the notes.

A few updates
posted by alex on Thursday Apr 13, 2006 at 6:55 pm

We're trying to roll out as much as possible as quickly as possible, so here are some things that you'll notice around mynoteIT.

Under your class list, each of your classes now has a "Grades" link where you can manage your class grades.

The welcome page (the page you see when you first login) has been updates quite a bit. Your active friends list now shows more detailed information about your friends. We also organized all the links into four major categories to make navigating mynoteIT easier.

We also added a "Search for friends" feature so you can easily find your friends and classmates on mynoteIT.

Remember, we are always looking for feedback so anything you want to tell us, please do. feedback@mynoteit.com
